Audits

A lift audit is a comprehensive assessment or inspection of lift systems and components to evaluate their compliance with relevant regulations, safety standards, and performance criteria.  The purpose of a lift audit is to identify any deficiencies, risks or areas of improvement in the operation, maintenance and safety of the lifts.

The scope of a lift audit typically includes

Safety compliance

The audit ensures that the lifts adhere to applicable safety codes, regulations, and standards. This includes checking safety features like emergency brakes, overspeed governors, door sensors, fire-rated lift components and compliance with accessibility requirements.

Maintenance and inspection records

The audit reviews maintenance and inspection records to assess whether the lifts have been regularly serviced and inspected as required.  It verifies that maintenance logs, work orders and service contracts are in place and up-to-date.

Performance evaluation: The audit assesses the operational performance of the lifts, such as travel times, door opening and closing speeds, leveling accuracy and response to call buttons.  It identifies any issues affecting the smooth and efficient operation of the lifts.

Modernisation and upgrade recommendations

The audit may recommend upgrades or modernisation measures for outdated or malfunctioning lift components.  This could include suggestions for improved control systems, energy-efficient technologies or equipment replacement.

Compliance with accessibility standards

The audit checks whether the lifts meet accessibility requirements, such as providing adequate space for wheelchair users, audible and visual indicators, Braille signage and proper lighting.

Documentation and signage

The audit verifies the presence and visibility of required documentation, including inspection certificates, permits, emergency procedures and informational signage.

After conducting the audit, a detailed report is prepared, outlining the findings, recommendations and suggested actions to address any identified issues.  The report serves as a valuable tool for building owners, facility managers and lift maintenance companies to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the lifts.
